History:
The Crusades were a series of military expeditions by Christian knights intended to recover Jerusalem and its surrounding area from Islamic rule. The Knights Templar seal was used from 1167-1298 and states, "SIGILLUM MILITUM XPISTI" (Latin for "Seal of the Soldiers of Christ"). The Crusader Cross was approved by Pope Eugenius III in 1147 and represents Christ's sacrifice.
